Mompreneur Work at Home Toolbox

Work at Home Toolbox

I am an information junkie!

There, I confessed.

I feel so much better now!

Lucky for you, I am able to share all of this knowledge I have gathered on my hard drive and in my head!

Is It Possible to Work at Home and Homeschool at the Same Time?

YES, it is! Most of us are one-income families since we have chosen to stay home with our children and teach them as well. But, it doesn’t have to be a financial struggle.

I have been working online and have owned different home businesses for years now to help supplement my husband’s income.

When he was laid-off in March of 2015, we started selling on Amazon, Ebay, and our Online Retail Store and that is our family business in addition to blogging.

Our goal now is multiple streams of income so that we are never left hurting financially if one income stream goes away.

The main struggle we face now, is dividing up the chores, homeschooling, and work hours to make sure all bases are covered. You can read more about the schedules we have tried in this post here.

Do You Want to Work from Home?

There are so many online business opportunities, but you have to be very careful and discerning when choosing where to invest your time and money.

I was probably on every internet guru’s email list for a few months and invested in some of those “Done-For-You” systems and “Step-by-Step Blueprints” that are supposed to make you thousands of dollars in 7 days. Don’t believe any of it! Learn from my mistakes. Don’t waste your money on these type of bright shiny objects.

The best way to build a business online is the old fashioned way of hard work, perseverance, and consistency. This way will mean long-term success and the greatest potential for profits.

The best part about online businesses is they don’t require a huge amount of money up front. You don’t have to rent office or retail space and pay extra utilities like a brick-and-mortar business does.

So Where Do You Start?

There are many ways to earn an income online, but I can only speak from my personal experience which has been a wonderful journey and is still growing.

I have hired coaching along the way which you can read more about here.

#1 Wealthy Affiliate University (Free to Join)

I first joined WAU (Wealthy Affiliate University) to learn everything I could about blogging and building websites to make an income online. I still host and build all of my websites through this platform. It was FREE to join and they give you 2 free websites to start out with while you are learning the ropes which sold me on the deal. Where else can you start a business for free?

I now offer coaching to everyone who signs up for free through my link so I can pay it forward and help those who want to work from home.

#2 Amazon & Ebay Store

The next income stream we embarked upon was learning to sell professionally on Amazon and Ebay platforms. This is by far the quickest way to make money online. You make your money when you “buy”. Which means, you learn how to source products from retail stores, online stores, or from wholesale companies, then you resale the items on Amazon and Ebay for profit.

I started with used items that I was no longer using around our home, such as books and kitchen items.

I then invested in the Proven Amazon Course which took the business to a whole new level. This course teaches you from setting up your selling account on Amazon all the way to how to source products from China manufacturers that you put your own private label on. You also get access to all other courses that Jim Cockrum (the founder) produces also.

#3 Opened Our Own Online Retail Store with Shopify

Mompreneur ShopKBInnovations

The third income stream we added was our Shopify store. We have all the products we sell on Amazon listed on our store, but it is just another avenue of income that we will have in case Amazon or Ebay decides one day to arbitrarily suspend our selling account (which they can do with no explanation and for any reason).

This helps me sleep better at night knowing we have a backup.

This online store also allows us to add more products by drop-shipping instead of having to invest up front in large quantities of inventory.

Another perk, is that all sales made at our online store are more profitable since we do not have to pay Ebay and Amazon the 15% commission they require.

Are You Ready to Take Control of Your Income?

The possibilities are endless! We have learned and grown our business by leaps and bounds this past year thanks to WAU and the PAC course. We made more money last year than we did when my husband was working full time as a District Engineering Manager at a large oil and gas company. He swears he will never work for another “boss” again.
